Services set for Plastics Pioneer Allan Niebuhr

Allan Niebuhr, who started selling plastics machinery in 1955, died on July 31. The Hamburg, N.J., resident, a member of the Plastics Pioneers Association, was 84.

Niebuhr sold more than 2,000 injection molding machines in the New York metropolitan area. As principal with A.F. Niebuhr Sales Inc., he represented Van Dorn Demag for 31 years and Conair for 41 years. In 1996 his firm merged with TR Machinery to form The Machinery Group Inc., and represented Milacron for 14 years. He also represented EMI, Universal Dynamices Inc., Maguire, Wittmann, and Budzar.

In 2010 he retired from The Machinery Group but continued to work as a consultant. He was inducted into the Van Dorn Hall of Fame in 1988. Niebuhr was a member emeritus of the Society of Plastic Engineers since 1955 and served as president of the Newark Chapter.

Niebuhr received a degree from Iowa State University in 1951.

He is survived by his wife Lisa Mauro Niebuhr and his children Nicole Barrar and Andrew Niebuhr. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Aug. 3 at St. Francis de Sales Church in Vernon, N.J.
