Spiroflow Ltd., the Clitheroe, England-based ancillaries firm, has bought Control & Metering Ltd., a Mississauga, Ontario-based bulk-handling equipment business.

The deal, financial details of which were not disclosed, would enable Spiroflow to consolidate its North American presence "and offer enhanced technology and services" to customers in the region, the company said.

Control & Metering specializes in dry bulk solids handling equipment while Spiroflow makes a variety of conveyors, bulk bag fillers and dischargers and handling and weighing systems.

Rob Hudson, Spiroflow's managing director, said: "This latest acquisition brings significant benefits to Spiroflow and our customers. First of all we gained a full order book which we immediately began to fulfill so that customers experienced minimal disruption.

"We will also enjoy an expanded presence in Canada which will enable us to broaden our sales, engineering, manufacturing and services capabilities for our continually growing global customer base."

Spiroflow said an unspecified number of staff at Control & Metering would be retained following the transaction.
