Invibio Biomaterial Solutions combines PEEK resin and a bone-like substance to create an improved, implantable material it calls PEEK-Optima HA Enhanced.
The new material contains hydroxyapatite, a proven bone-implant aid. The new homogeneous compound ensures the HA component is present on all surfaces of a device to promote adhesion to bone. PEEK itself has more than a ten-year track record of clinical use in bioimplantation.
“Although PEEK is the most popular chosen material for interbody fusion applications, surgeon feedback has indicated that a version of PEEK that enhances bone ongrowth on all sides of the device could be more effective,” notes Invibio emerging business director John Devine. “We believe the launch of PEEK-Optima HA Enhanced provides surgeons with improved technologies and enables device companies to differentiate their product offerings.”
