Nyloncraft shifting work from Fort Wayne

Nyloncraft Inc. will close its Fort Wayne, Ind., plant, but plans to transfer both the workers and the business to other facilities.

Nyloncraft, part of the Techniplas Group, bought the former NYX Inc. plant in Fort Wayne earlier this year, noting its expertise in functional plastics for the auto industry. Automakers still want the parts, but are looking to the company to shift the manufacturing footprint to better serve them, said Doreen Lettau, vice president of market and business development with Techniplas and its Dickten Masch Plastics.

The shutdown in Fort Wayne will take place over the next year. All of its about 100 workers are being encouraged to transfer to other Nyloncraft facilities in Mishawaka, Ind., or Jonesville, Mich., Lettau said, although the company will help employees seek other jobs if they choose not to relocate.
