TEMPE, ARIZ. — Tech Mold Inc. is adding two new presses to its mold and process validation technical center, allowing the mold maker to provide additional capacity in two-shot mold tryouts to its customers.

The company put a Husky Hylectric 440-ton press with a 19.5-ounce shot size into service in July at its Tech Mold East facility in Tempe. In October, it will add a Milacron 330-ton all-electric Maxima injection molding machine.

The Milacron press is adaptable for both single-shot and two-shot production with an 8-ounce primary shot size and a 7.6-ounce second shot size.

The press fills a gap in Tech Mold’s tonnage capacity and accommodates high-cavitation, small-part molds for medical customers, Vice President Vince Lomax said in a Sept. 20 news release.

Tech Mold is seeing more demand for two-shot molds from customers looking to cut manufacturing costs by reducing secondary operations.

The two presses bring the validation center fleet up to seven machines, ranging from 40 tons to 440 tons of clamping force.
