Dymax Corp.’s new UV-curable, clear hard coating is aimed at safety glasses and goggles, electronic touch panels, polarized sunglasses and LCD polarized displays.

OC-4021 is designed for high scratch-, abrasion- and chemical-resistance for film substrates such as PET. It is especially suitable for applications where printing is done on top of the hard coating, according to the Torrington, Conn., company. Dymax says it provides excellent transparency and low haze, while maintaining optical clarity over time.

The hard coating is 100 percent solids that Dymax claims can lower production, shipping and life-cycle costs as it reduces environmental impact. Although it is shipped without solvents, it can be mixed with various solvents just before roll- or dip-coating to get a desirable coating thickness of 2 to 5 microns. It cures quickly under UV light. Dymax also provides UV-curing equipment.
