AKRON, OHIO — A new Chinese plant planned by Bulk Molding Compounds Inc. is featured in this week's Material Insights video.

West Chicago, Ill.-based BMCI — a global leader in thermoset compound production — plans to open a plant near Shanghai by the end of 2014. The firm has operated a plant in Dongguan, China, since 2014, but needs another to serve automotive and other customers near Shanghai. The auto and electrical/electronic markets both are doing well for BMCI so far in 2013, officials told Plastics News.

A U.S. Food and Drug Administration approval for recycling leader KW Plastics also is featured in this week's video. Troy, Ala.-based KW received a "no objections" letter from the FDA for post-consumer polypropylene resin used to make reusable crates or pallets for fresh produce and shelled eggs.

The video wraps up with news that U.S. materials firm Invista and British specialty chemicals maker Ingenza Ltd. have joined forces to develop bio-derived chemicals that can be used in polymers and other industrial materials. Most of the work on the project will be done at Ingenza's labs in Edinburgh, Scotland. Invista ranks as one of the world's largest nylon resin makers.
