AKRON, OHIO — A late reprieve for a major European polyethylene plant is featured in this week's Material Insights video.

Ineos Group reached an agreement with the Unite labor union to keep open a major petrochemicals site in Grangemouth, Scotland. The site briefly had closed as the two sides worked on a deal. The new agreement includes a three-year no-strike clause.

The video wraps up with news of new resin and feedstock capacity from a trio of firms. Elevance Renewable Sciences Inc. will open a new biofeedstocks plant in Natchez, Miss., in 2016. In Bainbridge, Ga., Meredian will have 60 million pounds of bioresin capacity online by mid-2014. Gharda Chemicals Ltd. also will open a plant making polyetheretherketone and other specialty resins in Panoli, India, by mid-2015.
