Hoping to combat “many” instances of counterfeit versions of its resins, the Asian unit of German thermoplastic elastomer producer Kraiburg TPE GmbH & Co. is introducing souped-up packaging with hologram labels and other protections designed to frustrate the copycats.

The company said in a November 14 statement that its Malaysia-based Asia-Pacific operations have been seeing counterfeit Kraiburg resins in the market, packaged to look like its own TPE materials.

“Of late, there have been cases of many imitation Kraiburg TPE products surfacing in the market,” the company said, in a statement released by its Selangar, Malaysia-based unit, Kraiburg TPE Technology (M) Sdn. Bhd. “This is one of the chief reasons why Kraiburg TPE Asia/Pacific has decided to launch our new label design with enhanced security features.”

The new packaging allows Kraiburg to more easily authenticate whether the products are genuine, using “tamper-proof” security holograms, the company said.

“This security measure is introduced to prevent counterfeiting, discourage tampering and make it difficult to imitate,” the company said. “This security feature also allows Kraiburg TPE Asia Pacific to facilitate product authentication easily and speedily.”

Kraiburg said customers that see suspected counterfeits can send the product shipping label to the company. The new hologram labels include brand and product descriptions in Chinese, English, Japanese and Korean.

The company also introduced new pallet transport packaging that is recyclable and includes improved product health and safety information in 11 languages.
