Materials firm Plastics Color Corp. has increased its production capacity by adding a pair of new twin-screw extruders at its plant in Asheboro, N.C.

The new 40-millimeter lines — manufactured by Indian extruder maker Steer Engineering Pvt. Ltd. — give the plant more flexibility, faster changeover times, tighter tolerances and reduced lead times, plant manager Robert Wagner said in a Nov. 19 news release.

The new lines will allow PCC to produces lots ranging from 50 pounds to 2,000 pounds. Concentrates made on the lines will include antimicrobials, anti-counterfeiting taggants and flame retardants. The 44-employee site has eight production lines, making color and additive concentrates as well as some custom formulations.

PCC is based in Calumet City, Ill. The firm operates a plant there, as well as plants in Sun Valley, Calif.; and Nanjing, China, in addition to the Asheboro site. Earlier this year, the firm began distributing thermoset molding compounds made by Raschig GmbH of Ludwigshafen, Germany. Both PCC and Raschig are owned by industrial conglomerate PMC Global Inc. of Sun Valley, Calif.

Also in 2013 PCC opened a color-selection web portal and entered the anti-counterfeiting market with a line of particle taggants.
