3D printer supplier Statasys Ltd. is now offering nylon 12 for its Fortus systems.
The firm, jointly based in Minneapolis and Rehovot, Israel, says the new material creates tougher, more flexible unfilled nylon parts than other additive technologies. FDM nylon 12 features five times greater breakage resistance and better impact strength than other strong FDM materials, according to Stratasys. Elongation at break can be up to 100 percent higher.
Stratasys envisions applications in aerospace, automotive, home appliance and consumer electronics for the nylon 12, a semicrystalline polymer. Repetitive snap fits, fatigue endurance, chemical resistance and impact strength are benefits of the material.
“Nylon is one of the most widely used materials in today’s plastic products, and among FDM users it has been one of the top requested materials,” states the company’s materials product director Fred Fischer.
