3D Systems Corp., a manufacturer of three-dimensional printers and custom-designed parts, has acquired an Ohio company that makes plastic filaments used in rapid prototyping machines.

Rock Hill, S.C.-based 3D Systems announced Dec. 13 that it has acquired Village Plastics Co. Terms were not disclosed.

Village Plastics, a family-owned company based in the Akron suburb of Norton, Ohio, makes ABS, polylactic acid and high-impact polystyrene filaments used in three-dimensional printers.

“Village Plastics brings significant filament-based material development know-how and large scale manufacturing expertise that are vitally important to our Cube 3D printer consumer and prosumer growth initiatives,” said Avi Reichental, president and CEO of 3D Systems, in a news release.

Village Plastics extrudes filament and has in-house tooling capabilities.
