Sigma Stretch Film is investing in both cast and blown film technologies to expand capacity.
Sigma plans to start up a five-layer blown stretch film line in its Belleville, Ontario, plant early this year after starting up a five-layer cast film line in Shelbyville, Ky., last October. Both lines are being supplied by Gloucester Engineering Co. of Gloucester, Mass.
The new blown film line is designed to extrude silage film. It includes five Contracool extruders with PIB injection feeding a low-profile internal bubble cooling die and air ring. Enhancements include resin vacuum loading, feed-throat gravimetric blending and a trim reprocessing system.
The cast line includes four extruders feeding a Cloeren feed block and auto die. An Extrol 6032 control system handles resin vacuum loading, loss-in-weight blending and other line systems.
Both lines feature Gloucester's 1002 series surface-center winders. In a news release, Sigma Stretch Film Executive Vice President Per Nylen praised the winding technology.
Sigma Stretch Film is a division of Sigma Plastics Group of Lyndhurst, N.J. Sigma Stretch Films has four U.S. plants and one in Canada. Overall, Sigma Plastics has 13 divisions and 39 plants and claims to be the largest privately held film extrusion group in the United States.
