Evonik Corp. has new high-performance polymers specially designed for medical devices.

The German firm, with a U.S. head office in Parsippany, N.J., says the new products span a range of elasticity, impact and chemical resistance and durability. Target applications include catheters, surgical instruments and hearing aids.

Vestamid Care is available as nylon 12 and polyether block amides and exhibits high elasticity. Trogamid Care resins are transparent nylons with microcrystalline and amorphous molecular chain structures. Vestakeep Care is a polyetheretherketone. The Trogamid and Vestakeep materials feature rigidity.

Evonik says the Care series of polymers are biocompatible. The company tailors properties such as rigidity and flexibility, and transparency and translucency, depending on the application, indicates
