Mirteq Inc. has extended its line of thermoset/thermoplastic alloys to include a new series that is tougher, more elastic and has higher heat resistance.
Mir-1000 is a vinyl ester and thermoplastic alloy in styrene. It contains no glass fibers and the alloys have heat deflection temperatures of up to 203° F, according to the Fort Wayne, Ind., company.
Mirteq claims the new series can make parts molded at room temperature using low-cost tooling. Especially designed for custom fabrication and short runs, Mir-1000 combines the benefits of thermosets and thermoplastics, including corrosion resistance, production efficiency and low labor demands. The firm claims the new products are versatile because they can be processed by pouring or injecting into open or closed molds and they allow fast-to-market development cycles.
Mir-1000 complements the firm's other thermoset/thermoplastic alloys that contain microfiber glass reinforcement for non-structural, closed-mold applications.
