ERIE, PA. — Beaumont Technologies Inc., the maker of the MeltFlipper and other rheological control technologies for injection molding, has bought a Sodick LA 60 press to expand the Erie firm’s research and product development.

The Sodick machine uses a two-stage plunger system to precisely control injection of the plastic melt. “We will use this press to test applications of our patent-pending material characterization method, known as Therma-flo,” said Eric Bowersox, who manages Beaumont’s advanced processing lab.

Sodick injection presses, from the company in Schaumburg, Ill., have a stationary screw that provides a homogeneous, uniform melt, and a plunger that delivers an exact dose of resin into the mold.

The Sodick press at Beaumont Technologies has a 25-millimeter screw, and a molding capacity of 1.64 ounce.
