ANAHEIM, CALIF. — Bluestar Silicones is expanding its health-care presence as a silicone supplier for select long-term implant applications, the company announced Feb. 11 at the MD&M West trade show in Anaheim.

East Brunswick, N.J.-based Bluestar Silicones USA Corp. opened a plant in York, S.C., in 2012, which will support the implant-grade liquid silicone rubber (LSR), high-consistency rubber (HCR) and room-temperature-vulcanized (RTV) rubber ventures.

“Our customers are really driving our entry into this business,” said J. Christopher York, president of Bluestar Silicones North America. “We think there is a big gap in the marketplace and we moved on it because we saw and understood the customer demand.”

With prior experience in long-term implantable applications, Bluestar is prepared to support the implant market’s specific needs, York said.

In December 2013, the polymer provider, whose parent company is headquartered in Lyon, France, became certified under the Responsible Care Management System, the U.S. chemical industry’s integrated health, safety, security and environmental management system.

The company also recently launched a new Web site, www.silbione.com, designed to help current and potential customers learn about the entire Bluestar product line.

Bluestar Silicones reports within China National Bluestar (Group) Co. Ltd. of Beijing, a subsidiary of China National Chemical Corp.
