Uponor Corp., the maker of cross-linked polyethylene pipe, selected 1610 dual-head and 1620 continuous-ink-jet printers from Videojet Technologies Inc. for its extrusion lines, boosting its overall yield by 5 percent.

The latest generation of high-speed Videojet printers uses a larger variety of inks, so Uponor could focus the printing on its secondary coating lines. They could use fewer printers, and cut out ink waste during bottle replacement, such as spills and residual ink left in the old bottles.

According to the Chicago-based Videojet, Uponor reduce wastes from printing errors by 90 percent, and had a 40 percent savings in ink and makeup costs. That is achieved by using Videojet’s self-contained cartridge, designed to eliminate fluid spills and ensure that all fluids drain from the cartridge before replacement.
