Excel Nobleza Mexico's Excel Nobleza SA de CV specializes in flexible packaging. It has been purchased by Italy's Gualapack SpA.

Puebla, Mexico — Italian packaging giant Gualapack SpA has acquired Excel Nobleza SA de CV, a flexible packaging supplier located 100 miles southeast of Mexico City.

The Herrero family, which founded Excel Nobleza two decades ago, will continue to run the company, Gualapack said in a news release. Further details of the transaction have not been released.

Headquartered in Castellazzo Bormida, 45 miles southeast of Turin, Gualapack is a major player in the stand-up, spouted food pouch market.

Excel Nobleza, of Tepanco de López, in Puebla state, specializes in flexo printed and laminated film, bags and pouches, and printed shrink film and overwrap.

"The companies have complementary technologies, product portfolios and R&D resources that will enable the combined entity to provide a broader product offering," Gualapack CEO Michele Guala said.

The deal is an example of Gualapack's strategy of expanding in selected markets across the globe "and reinforces its position on the American continent," he said.

Excel Nobleza's commitment to high quality laminate printing "offers our business the right growth platform to deliver the best products and services to valuable customers," Guala added.

Gualapack did not respond to an email for more information and its telephones in Italy rang unanswered. Excel Nobleza executives also failed to return Plastics News' telephone calls.

Gualapack already has plants in the United States, Brazil and Costa Rica. Excel Nobleza is its first operation in Mexico, where packaging accounts for 50 percent of the 6-million-plus tons of plastic resins processed in the country every year.

It has three facilities in Italy, one in Romania and another in Ukraine, two in China and one in Japan, in partnership with an unnamed company.
