Here's a story from Columbus, Ohio, that's probably relevant just about anywhere in the country. It's about a pilot project called the Boat Shrinkwrap Recycling Program that plans to collect and recycle all the shrink wrap that boat owners are using now to prepare their craft to deal with the harsh winter elements.
In Ohio, the program has collected 240 tons of boat wrap and greenhouse plastic in the past two years, which a local company, Mondo Polymer Technologies Inc., used to manufacture about 48,000 guardrail blocks.
This shrink wrap has a lot of value, and it's a shame to throw it away. If local marinas in your area plan to trash the wrap next year, please help put them in touch with a local recycler that will handle the material.

Is there presently a way to recycle the shrink wrap in the Rockland County/Hudson River area? There are so many marinas and it would benefit us all. Please let me know.

I'm Bob Stefan, and I own Environmental Dynamics, Inc., a Charlotte, NC based company.
We recycle waste shrink wrap in baled form. Our client base ships nearly 400,000 lbs of waste shrink wrap (clean and clear) every month to plastic manufacturers. We mostly deal with large distribution centers (beer/food/retail) across the USA, but we are interested in expanding our business.
If you have, clean, clear shrink wrap and lots of it, we can help you make $$$$ every month. give me a call 704-904-8156.
Thx.

I have a home in the Pocono, PA. area and see much shrink wrap put on boats each season. I would like to be sure that it is recycled, and am beginning to find info out about that. Not trying to earn money, just want to be environmentally conscious, and am willing to devote my time to this end.

ECO Recycling will be recycling construction & demolition waste in the St. Louis, MO area and we anticipate a lot of stretch films and shrink wraps in the material we recover. I would like to locate a recycler in the midwestern US that would be interested in purchasing the material. If not midwestern US perhaps any location.
Please advise.
Thanks!

I work for a company in Massachusetts. We throw away all our shrink wrap. I would be very interested in learning of cost effective ways to responsibly dispose all our shrink and plastic wrap.. Does it have to be bailed, and if so what are the equipment costs.

The company I represent has a min of 5 operations interested in recycling our plastic shrink wrap and we are interested in potentially finding a national company interested in sourcing this material. If not, we would consider separate local operations. We have operations in Newark DE, Atlanta GA, Zanesville OH, and Pasadena CA as well as several manufacturing operation nationally placed. This material is not bailed but if the market price will offset the investment, we may consider purchasing bailing equipment specifically for this process. My number is 484-574-1654. Thanks

I work at a printing company. Our customers are always asking us whether we can provide shrink wrap and other plastic components of printed paper based items (covers, spiral spines, etc.) that are made of recycled plastic. Heat-shrink wrap and bands made of recycled plastic is what we are currently looking for. No luck so far...
are there any suppliers out there? Email me at kscholz at hemlock.com please.

I am an EHS Mgr for an aluminum foundry in Ohio. We are beginning a program of recycling shrink wrap (clean and clear) but unfortunately it is at a cost to us. Seems unfortunate to be charged for doing the right thing. We are not looking to make any money, just get rid of it without the associated cost. (440) 812-2813

I came across this blog and see many inquiries about disposing boat shrink wrap in a ecologically acceptable way. Are there any succesful recycling programs for this product in the southeastern New York area? My boat club is located in Stony Point NY on the Hudson River.
Thank You
