As managing editor of A couple of companies in Fairfield, Iowa, are demonstrating their just-in-time delivery capabilities this weekend, sending traffic-control cones to Washington for the Obama inauguration on Jan. 20 after receiving the order on Jan. 9.
The story comes from The Fairfield Ledger in Fairfield, Iowa, home to blow molder Agri-Industrial Plastics Co., which made the plastic tubes, and TrafFix Devices Inc., which assembled them.
TrafFix got the order for 2,000 looper tubes at about 9:30 a.m. on Friday, according to the newspaper report. The employees were obviously proud of their role in the project -- the story includes a big photo of the workers with the traffic cones, next to the truck that will transport them to Washington.
"We get a lot of just-in-time delivery requests, but this is the ultimate one ... we have to get them loaded on the truck and shipped today so they will be in Washington in time," said General Manager Max Giles.
Congratulations to TrafFix and Agri-Industrial for their role in the project, and for thinking ahead to get some publicity for the effort.
