There's a group of consumers who aren't in love with plastic packaging and gadgets, and social networking web sites are helping them share information and ideas.
The latest? Perhaps it's the Plastic Crap Wall of Shame Facebook page, created by Beth Terry of FakePlasticFish.com fame.
Terry started the "Plastic Crap" site in July. The mission:
To pull back the curtain and reveal this plastic "convenience" shit for the inconvenient, unsustainable mess it really is.Upload and tag your photos. Post your links. Include a company address so we can write to them. This page is open to anyone to participate.
I stumbled across the "wall" today via a link from Siel Ju's Mother Nature Network blog.
Siel calls the wall "a fun way to rage against plastic waste."
As of this writing, the wall has just over 1,100 people who "like" it (using the terminology of Facebook), and a pretty active "wall," mostly filled with examples and photos of plastic products that someone, somewhere, doesn't like.

Have you heard about this revolutionary innovation that turns plastic into oil (developed in Japan)? Who knows where turning plastic into oil can go in just a year...I think this is going to be huge!

Although I do believe plastic can be convenient, I do realize some of the disadvantages of certain packaging methods (overpackaging), and waste. It is so important to educate people on how to properly dispose of the waste, or how to not create it in the first place. However, I just saw a story today about a Japanese invention that turns plastic back into oil. Who knows where turning plastic into oil can go in just a year...do you think this will change perceptions/current struggle with plastic use/disuse?

Please spare me the gloss and the plastic, I like using plastic at times but this excessive use is hazardous and detrimental. Folks use common sense please. There is more than enough info out there to make us turn away from plastic use and yet plastic promoters continue on...Please put your time and intelligence to use improving rather than increasing plastic use. Then, you would be a hero. Packaging may be necessary in some areas for shipment and sanitation but let's improve the quality of the packaging so that it is biodegradable and not toxic. That's a worthy job and challenge in my opinion.
