Two Indian housewares firms continue expansion
GUANGZHOU, CHINA (October 19, 2009) -- Plastic packaging extruder Specialty Polyfilms India Pvt. Ltd. invested in a significant capacity expansion in August, as the company sees growth for its plastic food wrap. Meantime, household goods injection molder Princeware International Pvt. Ltd. is planning to add 15 injection molding machines at its Mumbai headquarters factory.

Liansu builds extrusion plants across China
GUANGZHOU, CHINA (October 19, 2009) -- Liansu Group, one of China’s largest plastic pipe makers, has opened a new factory in Nanjing, Jiangsu province, to target growing domestic demand for infrastructure projects. The company has also broken ground on new extrusion plants in Daqing, Heilongjiang province, and in Urumqi, Xinjiang. Liansu is also planning a pipe factory near Xi’an, Shaanxi province.

Thai court suspends 25 petrochemical projects
SINGAPORE (October 19, 2009) -- A Thai court has ordered the suspension of 25 petrochemical projects valued at 130 billion baht ($3.9 billion). But construction work is continuing because the government has not issued a suspension order, according to Petroleum Authority of Thailand (PTT).

Rebus deal expands Milliken thermoset colorant portfolio
SPARTANBURG, S.C. (October 16, 2009) -- Milliken & Co. announced that its Milliken Chemical subsidiary has purchased the assets of Rebus Inc., a North American supplier of pigment and additive dispersions for the thermoset plastics and high-performance industrial coatings markets. Milliken said the deal will allow it to offer Rebus products to thermoset and coatings manufacturers in fast-growing markets such as Asia-Pacific.

Trendelkamp opens sales office in Ho Chi Minh City
NORWALDE, GERMANY (October 16, 2009) -- Trendelkamp Technologie GmbH, a maker of polymer filtration equipment based in Norwalde, has named Reinhard Finger sales manager and Stefan Krenz will be responsible for the support of the American and Asian sector. The firm's new sales office in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam will be managed by Mark Murphy.

Netstal ends short-time manufacturing
FRIEDRICHSHAFEN, GERMANY (October 15, 2009) -- Swiss injection machinery maker Netstal AG will return to full-time work schedules beginning Nov. 1, citing a significant improvement in orders. Netstal is believed to be the first of the major machinery makers to bring short-time working measures to a close. The company has a sales and service office in Shanghai.

Bayer's German sites back to full work schedule
LEVERKUSEN, GERMANY (October 15, 2009) -- Bayer MaterialScience AG says it will bring the reduced hours work plan at its German sites to an end on Nov. 1, putting some 4,100 workers back on full salary. The company said all regions experienced a loss in sales, and the least affected market -- Asia Pacific -- saw a 23 percent decline.

Therma-Tru and Fypon merge, consolidate operations
MAUMEE, OHIO (October 15, 2009) -- The parent company of Maumee-based entry door maker Therma-Tru Inc. and Archbold, Ohio-based polyurethane and PVC millwork maker Fypon Ltd. are merging the two companies and consolidating some of the operations as part of a cost-cutting strategy. A small percentage of Fypon’s PU production in Archbold will be moved to the company’s plant in Yantai, China.

US consultants see slow recovery in 2010

CHICAGO (October 14, 2009) -- Consultants at Houston’s Chemical Market Associates Inc. foresee an economic comeback in 2010 — but have acknowledged that challenges remain for plastics and packaging markets.

Molder takes production from China to U.S.
GREENVILLE, MICH. (October 14, 2009) -- Two injection molders plan to add more than 100 jobs in Greenville, including a company bringing business to the United States from China. Zero1 LLC of Ada, Mich., has been involved with designing and backing office chairs made in China, but now plans to launch production in Greenville.

China orders antidumping tariff on nylon 6/6
BEIJING (October 13, 2009) -- China’s Ministry of Commerce has concluded that nylon 6/6 resin imported from the United States, Italy, the United Kingdom, France and Taiwan is hurting China’s domestic nylon manufacturers. Antidumping duties in the range of 5.3 percent to 37.5 percent have been imposed, starting today.

SHANGHAI (October 13, 2009) -- American firm Extrusion Dies Industries LLC has expanded its modular coating systems technology to Asia, bringing equipment for a complete slot die coating system to its Shanghai factory.

Study suggests link between BPA and aggressive behavior
WASHINGTON (October 12, 2009) -- A study published online in a scientific journal suggests a possible link between aggressive behavior in 2-year-old girls and prenatal levels of bisphenol A in their mothers. But the authors were quick to add that their study has a number of limitations.

Sykes named president of Dow Greater China
DETROIT (October 12, 2009) -- Plastics and adhesives supplier Dow Automotive Systems today named Steve Henderson its news president, replacing Peter Sykes, who was named president of Dow Greater China.

Cardia expands bio film production in Nanjing
NANJING, CHINA (October 12, 2009) -- Australian bio plastics firm is expanding production of its Biohybrid film after receiving food contact approval from the European Commission. The company is investing millions of dollars to expand its manufacturing facilities in Nanjing.
