Sumitomo Demag signs agreement with Sepro robots
SCHWAIG, GERMANY (September 1, 2009) -- French automation supplier Sepro Robotique will supply robots to Injection press maker Sumitomo (SHI) Demag Plastics Machinery GmbH — and Sumitomo Demag intends to fully integrate the robots into its presses, under an agreement signed in June.

Reifenhäuser GmbH purchases Kiefel film machinery business
TROISDORF, GERMANY (September 1, 2009) -- Reifenhäuser GmbH & Co. KG Maschinenfabrik has extended its extrusion technology base by acquiring blown film machinery maker Kiefel Extrusion GmbH for undisclosed terms. Reifenhäuser Managing Director Ulrich Reifenhäuser said in a telephone interview that the extrusion machinery business is a tough one in the current economic climate.

GM will let suppliers keep more of any cost savings
DETROIT (September 1, 2009) -- The new purchasing chief of General Motors Co., seeking to spark cost-cutting ideas from suppliers, will allow parts makers to pocket a greater share of the savings they generate.

Milacron emerges from Chapter 11
BATAVIA, OHIO (August 25, 2009) -- Milacron Inc. has a new name, and a new president and CEO, as it emerges from Chapter 11 bankruptcy. Milacron LLC, a new company owned by a group of investors led by Avenue Capital Group and DDJ Capital Management LLC, completed its previously announced purchase of substantially all of the businesses and assets of Batavia-based Milacron Inc.

Plastics decompose at sea with toxic effect say scientists
WASHINGTON (August 25, 2009) -- New research suggests that the prevailing view that ocean-bound plastics are virtually indestructible is wrong – they decompose with unexpected speed, releasing potentially toxic substances into the water, according to the American Chemical Society.

GREENWICH, CONN. (August 25, 2009) -- Nestle Waters North America Inc. is launching a new range of mineral water in the U.S. packaged in bottles consisting of 25 percent recycled PET, and is backing the move with a big recycling initiative.

Biodegradable dinnerware maker to announce U.S. sites
HOUSTON (August 18, 2009) -- A Texas entrepreneur has been touring multiple Midwest cities looking to locate multiple plants in the U.S. for a Chinese manufacturer of biodegradeable plastic dinnerware. The firm will announce its locations within 30 days.

California's EnVino finding success with PET wine bottles
BURLINGAME, CALIF. (August 18, 2009) -- A joint venture between a plastic bottle maker and thermoforming packaging manufacturer is making an aggressive push to penetrate the wine industry with plastics. With clear bottles for whites and green-hued bottles for reds, the bottles come in three sizes: 187 milliliter, the industry standard 750 milliliter, and 1 liter.
