D-M-E extends its reach into Asia with Futaba alliance

SHANGHAI (April 29, 2008) -- American mold equipment maker D-M-E Co. and Japanese mold base and electrical component manufacturer Futaba Corp. formed a strategic alliance April 18. Futaba is investing
in D-M-E’s Japanese facility, while D-M-E benefits by expanding its Asian manufacturing footprint through Futaba factories in China and Vietnam. “The crux of the whole relationship is we need a
bigger footprint in manufacturing in China, especially in some of the mold plate, special mold machining and hot runners,” said D-M-E President Dave Lawrence.
Rhodia invests in China by building research center SHANGHAI (April 29, 2008) -- Reinforcing the company’s commitment in Asia, international chemicals company Rhodia Group began construction of a Shanghai-based research and development center April 15.
The company expects the facility to be complete in the summer and employ 150 scientists.

Nissei opening its 1st Chinese press-making facility

SHANGHAI (April 29, 2008) -- Japanese injection press maker Nissei Plastic Industrial Co. Ltd. plans to break ground later this year on its first production plant in China. Production is set to begin
next year, said Nissei President Hozumi Yoda at the Chinaplas trade show. Nissei is Japan’s second-largest press maker, but has lagged some of its rivals in setting up manufacturing in China.
Sichuan Deyang adding PPS capacity SHANGHAI (April 29, 2008) -- Sichuan Deyang New Special Material Co. Ltd., which claims to be the only commercialized producer of polyphenylene sulfide (PPS) resin in China, is beefing up its
production. The company started China’s first PPS line in 2002 with annual capacity of 1,000 metric tons.
Ashland expanding resin distribution in China

SHANGHAI (April 29, 2008) – Prompted by the success of its distribution unit in China, officials at U.S.-based Ashland Inc. announced the aggressive expansion of the company’s China resin distribution
network, with new deals to handle materials from a number producers, including BASF, Clariant Masterbatches, DSM, LTL Color Compounders and Teknor Apex. Larry Hunt, Shanghai-based commercial director
of Ashland Distribution China, said his unit’s latest move means it now has “a full, in-country model.”
