US Army orders two thermoplastic bridges

Closure Systems International planning plant in Bangalore
BANGALORE (November 9, 2009) -- Closure Systems International announced Nov. 3 that it will open a plastic closure plant in Bangalore, India, in early 2010. The plant will be the Indianapolis-based company's second in India, and 31st globally.

Hong Kong plastics firms report mixed results
Hong Kong (October 27, 2009) -- Hong Kong-based compounder Ngai Hing Hong Co. Ltd. said it is seeing signs of recovery in its Chinese factories, while other plastics firms reporting financial results recently at the Hong Kong stock market were more cautious.

Cereplast develops algae-based bioplastics
HAWTHORNE, CALIF. (October 26, 2009) -- Bioplastics maker Cereplast Inc. plans to launch a line of bioplastic resins based on all-natural algae by the end of 2010. The company said the algae-based resins could be blended with polypropylene or other standard resins and used in injection molded or thermoformed parts.

Two Indian housewares firms continue expansion
GUANGZHOU, CHINA (October 19, 2009) -- Plastic packaging extruder Specialty Polyfilms India Pvt. Ltd. invested in a significant capacity expansion in August, as the company sees growth for its plastic food wrap. Meantime, household goods injection molder Princeware International Pvt. Ltd. is planning to add 15 injection molding machines at its Mumbai headquarters factory.

Netstal ends short-time manufacturing
FRIEDRICHSHAFEN, GERMANY (October 15, 2009) -- Swiss injection machinery maker Netstal AG will return to full-time work schedules beginning Nov. 1, citing a significant improvement in orders. Netstal is believed to be the first of the major machinery makers to bring short-time working measures to a close. The company has a sales and service office in Shanghai.

Molder takes production from China to U.S.
GREENVILLE, MICH. (October 14, 2009) -- Two injection molders plan to add more than 100 jobs in Greenville, including a company bringing business to the United States from China. Zero1 LLC of Ada, Mich., has been involved with designing and backing office chairs made in China, but now plans to launch production in Greenville.

Dow Chemical unveils new solar shingles
MIDLAND, MICH. (October 11, 2009) -- Dow Chemical Co. on Oct. 5 unveiled a line of photovoltaic solar panels that can be integrated into rooftops with standard shingle materials. Dow's Powerhouse solar shingles integrate thin-film photovoltaic cells into a proprietary injection molded roofing shingle design. The solar shingle systems will be available in limited quantities by mid-2010, and Dow expects them to be widely available in 2011.

Nypro closing Guangzhou injection molding plant
CLINTON, MASS. (October 6, 2009) -- Nypro Inc. will close its plant in Guangzhou, China, and move production to its plant in Shenzhen. The consolidation is expected to be completed by February.

West officially opens first plant in China
LIONVILLE, PA. (September 29, 2009) -- West Pharmaceutical Services Inc. has opened its first manufacturing operation in China – a plastic injection molding factory in the Shanghai Qingpu Industrial Zone. Full commercial production will begin late in the third quarter.

Rexam won over by all-electrics
MUNICH (September 29, 2009) -- Rexam Pharma GmbH product and technology manager Frank Henninger says a study of all-electric vs. hydraulic molding machines at its Neuenberger, Germany, plant has revealed huge energy saving potential and focused its future investment strategy in the all-electric direction.

EcoPower press makes debut

MEINERZHAGEN, GERMANY (September 29, 2009) -- Wittmann Battenfeld GmbH originally intended to give the first public viewing of its new electric-drive EcoPower injection press at the Fakuma 2009 trade show in mid-October. But the company decided to lift the wraps on the new machine a bit early, at the official opening of its new sales and service center in Meinerzhagen — a town about 50 miles northeast of Cologne — on Sept. 10.

Iris adding machinery to global housewares operations

PLEASANT PRAIRIE, WIS. (September 29, 2009) -- Housewares injection molder Iris USA Inc. is adding new equipment to improve efficiency at its plants in Pleasant Prairie and Mesquite, Texas. The company will install 50 new JSW all-electric presses, plus 38 Motoman robots, by the end of the year. Iris USA’s parent company, Sendai, Japan-based Iris Ohyama Inc. also is adding new machines in Europe, Japan and China.

Cosmos sees improvement, but reports a loss
Hong Kong (September 29, 2009) -- Cosmos Machinery Ltd., one of China’s largest injection press makers, said first half 2009 machinery sales fell 44 percent, although it said it’s seeing signs of a pickup in China and some overseas markets.
