European source for Zhafir all electric machines nearer
EBERMANNSDORF, GERMANY (June 24, 2009) -- European assembly of the Zhafir Venus Series of all-electric injection moulding machines from China’s giant Haitian International concern has come a stage closer with last week’s topping out ceremony of the E10m site in Germany. The schedule calls for the assembly of the Venus units to start at the end of this year.

U.S. machinery shipments plunged in fourth quarter
WASHINGTON, D.C. (June 23, 2009) -- The U.S. plastics equipment market suffered an across-the-board decline in 2008 that hit all sectors of injection presses, extruders, blow molders, auxiliaries and screws and barrels, according to a year-end report from the Society of the Plastics Industry Inc.

Silcotech targets India's domestic market with new JV

CHICAGO (June 23, 2009) -- Canadian liquid silicone molder Silcotech North America Inc. and India’s Bonny Products Pvt. Ltd. have formed a joint venture aimed at tapping India’s domestic market, the latest step in Silcotech’s push into developing economies, following startups in China and Bulgaria.

Arburg launches new hybrid injection machines
LOSSBURG, GERMANY (June 22, 2009) -- German injection machinery maker Arburg GmbH + Co. KG used its annual Technology Days open house event at its headquarters in Lossburg to launch its energy-saving Hidrive hybrid machine line and to invite customers into its newly completed customer center.

Nissei strengthening presence in South, Southeast Asia
NAGANO, JAPAN (June 22, 2009) -- Injection molding machinery maker Nissei Plastic Industrial Co. Ltd. will set up offices in India and Vietnam to bolster its presence in South and Southeast Asia and respond to an influx of Japanese companies in those countries.

KraussMaffei expanding PU equipment business in Asia
SHANGHAI (June 16, 2009) -- German machinery maker KraussMaffei Machinery Co. Ltd. is expanding its capabilities for polyurethane (PU) equipment in Asia, expanding capacity in both China and Japan, in response to a growing PU market in both countries.

German molder Oechsler optimistic in China

GUANGZHOU (June 16, 2009) -- German-based precision injection molder Oechsler AG said its China sales are recovering, and it intends to proceed with an expansion plan in 2010 if the trend continues. The global recession hit the company’s sales in the fourth quarter of last year and the first quarter this year, said Vincent Chan, deputy general manager of Oechsler Plastic Products (Taicang) Co. Ltd. “But we’ve seen a recovery in recent months, largely due to Chinese policies to stimulate the auto and appliances markets."

Engel chief reveals depth of crisis for the press maker
ST. VALENTIN, AUSTRIA (June 9, 2009) -- Engel Holding GmbH Chief Executive Officer Peter Neumann painted a bleak picture of the current injection molding machine market at a May 28 company technical symposium in St. Valentin.

Sumitomo Demag dubs German plant all-electric hub
SCHWAIG, GERMANY (June 9, 2009) -- Sumitomo (SHI) Demag Plastics Machinery GmbH plans to turn its plant in Wiehe, Germany, into a major manufacturing base for all-electric injection molding machines, the company announced. The project is part of a larger investment in its Wiehe and Schwaig, Germany, plants.

PTI develops system for making foamed PET bottles

HOLLAND, OHIO (May 26, 2009) -- Plastic Technologies Inc. (PTI) has developed a system to make foamed PET bottles and jars that fit existing recycling programs. The oPTI bottle technology produces a white or silver bottle wall without the use of pigments that can contaminate a recycling stream. Besides recycling benefits, the oPTI bottle promises shelf appeal and product differentiation. Swirls and streaks on the bottle exterior can be controlled and can improve grip of the bottle.

Cosmos to expand, touts energy-efficient presses
GUANGZHOU (May 26, 2009) -- Hong Kong’s Cosmos Machinery Enterprises Ltd. had a tough 2008, like many in China’s plastics equipment industry, but the company said at the Chinaplas 2009 show that it is pressing ahead with investments in new facilities in China and pushing energy-saving models that increasingly are becoming standard there.

Press maker Milacron hits some ‘firsts’ in China

GUANGZHOU (May 26, 2009) -- China’s price-sensitive press buyers have taught U.S. machine maker Milacron Inc. a few tough lessons, but the company hopes a series of firsts for its China operations can give its efforts there a boost.
