PLYMOUTH, MICH. (Aug. 14, 10:55 p.m. ET) -- Bottle maker Plastipak Packaging Inc. plans to build a new plant in Victorville, Calif., to make bottles for customer Dr Pepper Snapple Group Inc.
Dr Pepper of Plano, Texas, plans to open its new Victorville plant during the spring. Plymouth, Mich.-based Plastipak is its biggest supplier and the drink maker said the bottle maker has signed an agreement to build near it at Southern California Logistics Airport, according to a newsletter from the Victorville Economic Development Department.
Plastipak officials did not immediately respond to requests for comment, although its Web site lists 78 jobs in Victorville.
The Victorville plant will be Plastipak’s second facility on the West Coast -- it has had a plant in Modesto, Calif., for three years. The company now has plants throughout the Midwest, Texas, Louisiana, Florida and Massachusetts.
Local news reports said Plastipak has submitted plans to take over a vacant 230,000 square foot site and employ up to 200 people.
