Injection molder Nescor's assets on block

MESOPOTAMIA, OHIO (Sept. 11, 3 p.m. ET) -- After repurchasing the company he founded, Nelson Shively is liquidating the assets of Mesopotamia-based automotive molder Nescor Plastics Corp.

Shively considered resurrecting the company after reacquiring it in July from Blackhawk Automotive Plastics Inc. via Urbana, Ill.-based Flex-N-Gate Corp., which bought the bankrupt automotive supplier in 2008.

“It wasn’t working out,” Shively said in a Sept. 11 telephone interview. “It’s hard to make a bunch of payments when you don’t have income. Right now, it’s tough to find business.”

Solon, Ohio-based Stopol Auctions LLC will conduct the auction, scheduled for Sept. 30. An inspection day for prospective buyers is scheduled for Sept. 29.

Nescor had 18 injection molding presses, made by Cincinnati, Mitsubishi and Nissei, with clamping forces of 55-500 tons. The plant also features a plethora of auxiliary equipment, including grinders, blenders, dryers, conveyers, sprue pickers and a 3-ton gantry crane.

Shively said he is going to lease the 40,000-square-foot plant to a manufacturer of electric heater fireplace mantels, though he won’t completely rule out the possibility of reopening a molding facility some day.

“We’re leaving a lot of the structure. If something happens later on, we can always set up a molding plant again if we want to,” he said.
