Video interview with design exec
PLASTICS NEWS REPORT
Posted October 28, 2009
MIAMI (Oct. 28, 5:10 p.m. ET) -- Clive Roux wasted no time getting his feet wet as leader of the world’s largest design trade association. Nine days after assuming the post of executive director of the Dulles, Va.-based Industrial Designers Society of America, Roux — a long-time former official with Netherlands-based Philips Design — was on stage in Miami addressing a crowd of nearly 500 at IDSA’s annual international conference.
A South African who has worked in Africa, Europe, Hong Kong and the U.S., Roux took time out during the conference to speak on camera with Plastics News. IDSA had cited Roux’s broad international experience as well as his combination of design thinking and business management skills as vital factors in choosing him from among a large field of candidates. In this video interview, Roux draws on that background to share some thoughts on how design thinking can pay dividends to those companies that choose to tap into the talents of designers. He also comments on how IDSA, like the design sector in general, is becoming increasingly international in nature.
This clip, the first in a new, original series of videos shot at IDSA’s Miami conference, will feature interviews by Plastics News editor Robert Grace with several global design leaders, as well as with materials and plastics industry officials who participated in that event. Watch for a new clip every Wednesday at www.plasticsnews.com/video.
