Wis. molder Dickten Masch plans expansion project

NASHOTAH, WIS. (Dec. 21, 10:10 p.m. ET) -- Injection molder Dickten Masch Plastics LLC is investing $2.8 million to install a fluid level indicator product line from one of its long-time customers. The company said the project will create 75 jobs and retain 160 existing jobs.

The company will receive $293,000 in state tax credits for the project.

The work is coming from Milwaukee-based Charter Automotive, formerly known as Milwaukee Wire Products. Charter, a Tier 1 and Tier 2 automotive suppliers, recently announced that it was exiting the fluid level indicator business.

Dickten Masch, which is based in Nashotah, has used the economic downturn to reevaluate its business model. The firm credited "thinking outside the box" for the decision to take on the work from Charter.

Some 60 Charter Automotive employees are being asked to transfer DMP, with another 20 employees expected to be added when the division reaches full capacity, by October 2010.

The company is adding more work, too. Due to Dickten Masch's ability to cut costs and lead times, it said in a news release that a regional medical equipment manufacturer is bringing manufacturing back from China and placing it with Dickten Masch.

Dickten Masch molds parts for customers in the power tool, electronics, small engine, construction, health care and food industries. It has thermoplastic injection presses ranging from 40-725 ton of clamping force and thermoset injection and compression/transfer presses from 55 to 800 tons.

Dickten Masch reported sales of $50 million in Plastics News' most recent ranking of North American injection molders.
