Algoryx to discuss technology at SPE event

ANAHEIM, CALIF. (April 2, 10:45 a.m. ET) -- Algoryx Inc. of Los Angeles has gained its sixth and seventh U.S. patents, has more than 350 U.S. claims in the injection molding field and has introduced a professional version of its software.

All of Algoryx applications involve plastics processing, said President Steve Tuszynski, who will discuss the technology at an April 21 seminar in Anaheim, Calif., prior to the second Western Plastics Processors trade fair. The Society of Plastics Engineers’ southern California section sponsors the event, which includes exhibits, three seminars and a dinner.

Tuszynski “offers a unique and revolutionary technology that has caught the attention of many Fortune 500 companies,” said Vishu Shah, president of Consultek Consulting Group of Brea, Calif., an Algoryx technical advisor and an organizer of the SPE event.

Algoryx demystifies the molding process,” said a quality manager in one of 23 unidentified customer testimonials on the firm’s website.

Algoryx licenses its technology under non-disclosure agreements to original equipment manufacturers in the automotive, medical device, consumer electronics and fluid management industries. Implementation occurs in North America, Europe, Asia and elsewhere.

Under a patent granted March 2, the technology can reduce cycle times eliminating one or two shifts per week in an around-the-clock operation and cut press energy consumption by 4-5 percent. A Feb. 9 patent deals with shot-to-shot automated accept-or-reject technology and automated closed-loop feedback systems that control the press and ensure all part dimensions meet specifications.

Across its patent portfolio, “the technology eliminates all iterative, trial-and-error mold, tolerance, press and metrology tuning cycles during mold development (and) reduces the number of validation measurements by 85 percent,” Tuszynski said via email.

In addition to Tuszynski, other SPE seminar presenters are technical consultants Tuan Dao of the Polymer Engineering Group of Yorba Linda, Calif., on plastic part design and Suhas Kulkarni of Fimmtech Inc. of Vista, Calif., on design-of-experiment concepts.

On the basis of response to the fair, “southern California is showing signs of a rebound,” said Chris Mitchell, senior project engineer at Helix Medical LLC’s Baldwin Park, Calif., facility and another SPE event organizer. “This event is drawing together our local industry.”

Two SPE-section programs provide scholarships annually to high school and college students.
