SOUTHAMPTON, PA. (Feb. 8, 1:40 p.m. ET) -- Raymond Baker, founder of tubing and hose extruder NewAge Industries Inc., died on Jan. 28 following a brief illness. He was 91. Baker founded the company in 1954, initially to import hardness testing equipment from Italy.

SCHAFFHAUSEN, SWITZERLAND (Feb. 4, 11:10 a.m. ET) -- GF Piping Systems Ltd., part of Georg Fischer AG, opened a new factory in Ratnagiri, India, south of Mumbai, on Nov. 4. GF has had a sales presence in India for 20 years, but this is its first manufacturing operation there.

MEXICO CITY (Feb. 2, 4:45 p.m. ET) -- Latin America’s largest producer of PVC pipes, vinyl resins and compounds is optimistic Mexico’s antitrust authority will approve its contentious purchases of a rival plastic pipe maker and a PVC resin producer by the end of March.

STOW, OHIO (Jan. 21, 1:50 p.m. ET) -- Extruder Formtech Enterprise Inc. is selling off equipment in a Feb. 3 auction at its Stow plant as it finishes an 18 month consolidation of manufacturing to its Pennsylvania and Georgia facilities.

DALLAS (Jan. 20, 2:55 p.m. ET) -- Atrium Cos. Inc., a major fabricator of vinyl windows and doors, has filed for Chapter 11 protection as part of a pre-negotiated financial restructuring. President and CEO Gregory Faherty said the restructuring will put Atrium in a much stronger financial position. Atrium plans to complete the restructuring in three to four months.

AKRON, OHIO (Jan. 11, 12:20 p.m. ET) -- For the first time since 2005, manufacturers of plastic building products can expect demand for their products to increase this year. Demand and production will still fall short of a less-than-stellar 2008, but for the first time in a long time, experts say things are finally moving in a positive direction.

GLEN ELLYN, ILL. — The Plastic Pipe and Fittings Association has appealed a ruling by a lower court that threatens to halt the use of cross-linked polyethylene pipe in plumbing in California. The appeal, filed Dec. 31, means that PEX piping, which has been approved for use by the California Building Standards Commission, can continue to be used, pending the appellate court ruling.

A team of judges has picked four finalists: GW Plastics Inc., a Vermont-based processor that has transitioned into a medical molder; Montrose Molders Corp., a New Jersey molder now in its third generation of family ownership; Plastikos Inc., a molder of electrical connectors in Pennsylvania; and PolyPipe Inc., a polyethylene pipe extruder based in Texas.

NEW LONDON, N.C. (Dec. 29, 11:50 a.m. ET) -- Fiber Composites LLC has changed its name to Fiberon LLC, the company announced this week. A top-tier player in wood-plastic composite and cellular PVC decking, Fiberon has long sold its product under the Fiberon brand name, which led to some confusion in the marketplace.
