WADSWORTH, OHIO (Jan. 26, 5:20 p.m. ET) -- The family that owned thermoformer Rohrer Corp. has sold its controlling interest to ShoreView Industries, a Minneapolis-based private equity firm. Founded in 1973 by brothers John and David Rohrer, Wadsworth-based Rohrer manufactures thermoformed blister packaging as well as paper card stock for blisters and folding paper cartons.

LAWRENCE, KAN. (Jan. 14, 2:05 p.m. ET) -- Berry Plastics Corp. received unanimous approval Jan. 13 from the Douglas County (Kan.) Commission for its application for $11.7 million in federal recovery zone bonds to be used toward building a new warehouse and distribution facility in Lawrence.

MOUNT VERNON, OHIO (Jan. 7, 1:05 p.m. ET) -- Replex Mirror Co. Inc., dba Replex Plastics, is taking solar collector research to a higher level. The company is sharing a $1.25 million grant from the Ohio Third Frontier Commission to develop prototype mirrors that collect sunlight for photovoltaic cells. Previous work by Replex resulted in thermoformed acrylic mirrors coated with aluminum or silver that concentrate sunlight. The current grant will be used to make prototypes.

BELMONT, N.C. (Jan. 6, 4:45 p.m. ET) -- Wilbert Plastics Services. Inc. said Jan. 6 that it will relocate its corporate headquarters from the Chicago area to Belmont, N.C. The Broadview, Ill.-based thermoformer and injection molder plans to add 41 jobs in Belmont and spend $5.7 million on improvements over the next three years — including adding capacity at its thermoforming plant there, President and CEO Greg Botner said in a telephone interview.

MARION, IND. — TriEnda LLC is celebrating the first anniversary of its second manufacturing operation with an expansion at the factory that will grow the Marion operation by about 50 percent. The plant will add 75 employees a thermoforming machine and a grinding operation.

ATLANTA (
Updated Dec. 17, 12 p.m. ET) -- Atlanta-based packaging producer Printpack Inc. has opened a thermoforming factory in Suzhou, China, making rigid plastic containers for the food packaging industry. The Suzhou plant, Printpack (Suzhou) Packaging Co., Ltd., will focus on supplying to customers in Asia.

JANESVILLE, WIS. (Dec. 11, 11:10 a.m. ET) -- Packaging thermoformer Prent Corp. has moved into a new plant in Shanghai’s Jiading district that more than doubles its capacity in China and increases the number of its Class 8 clean rooms there from one to three. President and CEO Joseph Pregont said the company has experienced “high, double-digit growth” in China since it entered the market five years ago, which has allowed it to expand its workforce there to more than 350.

TOKYO (Dec. 4, 10:30 a.m. ET) -- A new plastics show is launching in Japan in 2010 targeting end users of plastics in segments such as automobiles, medical, packaging and solar batteries. The N-Plas show, planned for May 19-21 at Tokyo’s Big Sight exhibition center, will expects to attract 20,000 visitors and have 5,400 square meters of exhibition space.

LEVERKUSEN, GERMANY (Nov. 25, 10:15 a.m. ET) -- Bayer MaterialScience AG and Malibu Plastica Ltd. have entered a joint venture to supply polycarbonate sheet in India. The JV will be named Bayer Malibu Polymers Private Ltd. and be headquartered in Ahmedabad, India.

MEXICO CITY (Nov. 20, 10:30 a.m. ET) -- Mexico’s first Artiplast trade show, designed to showcase plastics processors, took place in the capital’s World Trade Center Nov. 18-20, attracting 120 exhibitors and about 3,000 visitors. The organizer, the Instituto Mexicano del Plástico Industrial SC, or IMPI, plans to turn the show into an annual event where small- and medium-sized companies can show off their wares and services.

BUFFALO GROVE, ILL. (Nov. 16, 12:30 p.m. ET) — Mid Oaks Investments LLC is adding to its plastics packaging empire with the acquisition of C&M Fine Pack Inc. The deal, announced Nov. 16, adds another company that specializes in foodservice packaging to the Mid Oaks portfolio. Mid Oaks already owns Wilkinson Industries Inc. and Dispoz-o Products LLC.

SUN VALLEY, CALIF. (Nov. 10, 4:25 p.m. ET) -- Plastics PET recycler Global PET and Direct Pack Inc. have introduced the Bottle Box, a food container made from 100 percent recycled PET. The package, which will be initially marketed in the western U.S., is designed for takeout foods, snacks, deli items and food entrees that do not exceed 165° Fahrenheit.

DETROIT (Nov. 3, 4:40 p.m. ET) -- Auctions are set Nov. 10 and Nov. 11 for two closed Visteon Corp. plants in Ohio and Missouri while surplus equipment from CertainTeed Corp.’s vinyl siding operation in Social Circle, Ga., will be auctioned on Dec. 3.
