Anipac encouraged by Pemex deal with Mexichem

MEXICO CITY -- The decision by state oil company Petróleos Mexicanos to form a $556 million vinyl chloride monomer joint venture with Mexichem SAB de CV underscores the new federal government's commitment to the plastics industry, according to a top association official in Mexico.

North American PP prices up 15 cents in January

AKRON, OHIO -- A major price hike has hit the North American polypropylene market, sending prices up an average of 15 cents per pound since Jan. 1. Average selling prices in the region for polystyrene also are up 3 cents per pound since Nov. 1, while suspension PVC prices in the region have dropped 1 cent per pound since Dec. 1.

Mexichem and Pemex resurrect VCM deal

MEXICO CITY -- Mexichem SAB de CV, the largest manufacturer of PVC pipe, vinyl resins and compounds in Latin America, said Thursday it will form a vinyl chloride monomer joint venture with state oil company Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex) after all, less than two months after withdrawing from the $556 million project.
