Los Angeles City Council votes to ban plastic bags

The Los Angeles City Council today voted to ban single-use plastic grocery bags. The city becomes the largest in the country to adopt an ordinance to phase out plastic grocery bags.

Members of the Maine Statehouse have plastics on the brain. The House rejected a bill May 30 that would have required shoppers to pay 5 cents for plastic shopping bags. Just days earlier, the House voted unanimously in favor of banning bisphenol A from infant formula cans and baby-food jar lids.

California Senate rejects plastic bag ban

California legislators again failed to approve a state-wide ban on single-use plastic bags. The 18-17 vote in favor of the bill in the state Senate failed to reach the 21-vote threshold for passage.
