ORLANDO, FLA. — China is ramping up the production capacity of bio-degradable poly(butylene succinate) (PBS) and its copolymers. Leading producers at NPE said they hope to export a larger portion of their production to North America.
China New Materials Holdings Ltd. of Zibo, Shandong province, which claims to be the only company in China that integrates upstream and downstream production of PBS materials, said it is looking to sell its PBS copolymers, including PBSA, PBST and PBAT, directly to U.S. processors. It has been selling through agents, said executive director Wei Lu at the company's NPE booth.
The company said it is launching 25,000 metric tons of PBS capacity. It also makes BDO, one of the building blocks for PBS and said the vertical integration ensures quality and cost control.
