ITASCA, ILL.-Shieldmate Inc., a custom manufacturer of cellular telephones and other electronic equipment, has expanded its molding operations with the addition of 47,000 square feet of new manufacturing space. The building expansion, completed in December, has increased the company's total space to 100,000 square feet at its Itasca headquarters. In addition to the molding department, the new space will house a quality lab, toolroom, clean room and assembly area.
Shieldmate, which uses Engel and Netstal molding machines, added three new presses, boosting its total to 14. The machines have clamping forces of 90-300 tons.
Shieldmate's original plant, built four years ago, will continue to house the company's industrial coating and electromagnetic shielding operations, the company said.
Shieldmate President Steve Matecki declined to put a dollar value on the expansion or disclose the company's sales volume.
