PARAMOUNT, CALIF. - Spurred by major growth in 1994, ZMD International Inc. of Paramount is close to relocating its production to a larger plant. The company is close to completing a deal for a new plant in Gardena, Calif., according to Jacob Horev, vice president of marketing for the thermoforming machinery and controls manufacturer.
``I would expect that within the next month or two, we would be moving to the new site,'' he said in a telephone interview. ``The move would almost double the size of the plant, and would include acreage for future expansion.''
The firm's current facility is about 13,000 square feet and the Gardena facility is about 22,000 square feet, Horev said. He declined to give details on the plant or total sales.
The move is made possible because the company saw sales of its ceramic radiant heat and other machinery grow fourfold in 1994. He declined to say exactly how many machines were sold, but added that there was growth in all markets, especially in overseas orders.
``We find that 30 percent of our orders have been from repeat customers,'' Horev said. ``We have machines in Bahrain, China, the Philippines, Thailand and many other places.''
He said ZMD plans to increase the work force at the new site from its current level of 35 employees.
