GRAND HAVEN, MICH. - Polyply Inc. has sold its Grand Haven composites operation to Thomas Soltysiak, former general manager of the plant and business. Soltysiak changed the name of the operation to Polyply Composites Inc. when he acquired it Jan. 23 for undisclosed terms. He purchased it from Roger Knowles, who continues to own Polyply Inc. operations that make metal/plastic printed circuit board materials in New Bedford, Mass., and Ajax, Ontario.
Polyply Composites compression molds sheet and bulk molding compounds for various industries and also sells the compounds to other processors. It has a 55,000-square-foot facility with 11 compression presses as large as 700 tons.
Major products include glass-fiber-reinforced sheet insulation laminates for electrical applications.
Knowles, 70, said the Grand Haven operation ``has been a good business,'' but he wants to spend his energy on fewer businesses.
