PHOENIX - Copperstate Plastics Inc., a custom pressure former in Phoenix, recently expanded its capabilities with the addition of a Thermwood computer numerically controlled, six-axis router. The company also has three Motionmaster routers. Marla Quinn, operations manager, said the addition of the Thermwood has increased productivity and cut lead times for parts.
In one instance, a six-step routing job became a one-step process.
Copperstate operates in two buildings with a total of 42,000 square feet. In addition to five pressure forming machines and one vacuum former, Copperstate offers radio frequency interference shielding, painting and silk screening capabilities. It also has in-house tool design and building services, according to Quinn.
The case division of Copperstate specializes in forming, shielding, painting and assembly of cases for use in electronics applications.
Recently the company installed a computerized bar-code tracking system that by the end of this year will track every function of the company, including individual jobs, quality, payroll and inventory.
Copperstate employs 50 and serves the electronics, medical and consumer point-of-sale markets. Sales for 1994 were about $3 million.
