MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA - Sales at Twinpak Inc. of Dorval, Quebec, an injection molding subsidiary of Australia's Containers Packaging, were a major contributor to a 12.6 percent increase in Containers Packaging's pre-tax profit to A$116.1 million (US$84 million) for the six months ended in December. Worldwide, Melbourne-based Containers Packaging saw sales increase 5.4 percent to A$966 million (US$699 million). Containers Packaging is a unit of Australian packaging firm Amcor Ltd.
Stan Wallis, managing director of Melbourne-based Amcor, said Containers Packaging had strong sales growth in rigid plastics, mostly in PET, particularly in Canada. Containers recently acquired a 64 percent interest in flexible packaging maker Flexible Holdings Inc., which has plants in Tukwila, Wash., and Bowling Green, Ky. It trades under the name Cello Bag Co Inc.
