WOOSTER, OHIO - Alfred Rew, 51, financial director of Rubbermaid Inc.'s operation in Mexico, died May 25 in Wooster. Wooster police said Rew was found dead in his room at the Best Western Hotel by hotel employees after he failed to respond to a wakeup call. There was no sign of foul play in the room.
Wayne County Coroner Dr. J.T. Questel will not rule on the exact cause of death until the results of laboratory tests are complete.
Rew, who was in Wooster attending business meetings at Rubbermaid's headquarters, lived in Mexico City, where he managed finances for Rubbermaid's Mexican operations, including Rubbermaid de Mexico, an operation of the company's home products division.
A company spokesman said that Rew had planned brief business meetings in Wooster, and then had planned to visit relatives in the area before returning to Mexico.
Rew was described by the company as an overseas operations expert, having joined Rubbermaid in 1992. From 1969 until 1992 he worked for the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co., where he managed Latin American and African finances for the tire manufacturer.
Funeral arrangements were pending.
