GLENVIEW, ILL. - Illinois Tool Works Inc. boosted its plastic film equipment business with the recent acquisition of Newtec International SA of France, a producer of stretch and shrink film wrapping equipment. ITW, based in Glenview, will add Newtec to its Specialty Industrial Packaging Systems group, which includes its Mima business, a producer of stretch film and stretch film equipment in Florida, Georgia and Europe. The group also makes paper edgeboard and dunnage bags.
ITW spokeswoman Linda Williams would not disclose terms of the purchase or Newtec's sales. She said about a quarter of Newtec's sales are in North America.
Newtec is one of several firms acquired by ITW in 1995. Other acquisitions make welding equipment, appliance indicator lights, auto body fillers, adhesives and steel strapping.
ITW also said its Global Automotive group plans to buy an undisclosed plastic automo-tive fastener firm based in Italy and supplying markets in Europe and Brazil. Automotive businesses accounted for about 19 percent of ITW's 1994 sales of $3.5 billion, estimated Williams.
