Sybron International Corp. of Milwaukee has acquired three medical and laboratory supply companies to consolidate its leading position in the market for plastic disposable products. Sybron announced July 5 it has signed an agreement to buy the Nunc group of companies from BTR plc of London for P105 million in cash [$167.3 million]. The Nunc companies - comprising Nunc Inc. of Naperville, Ill., Nunc A/S of Roskilde, Denmark, and Nunc GmbH of Weisbaden, Germany - supply disposable plastic laboratory plates, flasks, dishes and tubes used in cell biology research.
Larry Klasinski, marketing manager for Nunc Inc., said the Naperville and Roskilde operations are injection molding plants, and the Weisbaden location is a distributorship. The three companies employ 540 and have aggregate sales of about P44 million [$70.1 million].
``We are a perfect complement with Sybron,'' he said.
``Nunc's products are often distributed by the same companies as Sybron's, to the same customers. We are in the same business, while the core of BTR's business is in the heavy industrial sector,'' according to Klasinski.
Kenneth F. Yontz, Sybron's chairman, president and chief executive officer, noted in a prepared statement that the deal also advances Sybron's strategic goal to expand its international presence.p
