PHILADELPHIA - The Justice Department on July 12 closed its investigation into pricing policies in the polyethylene industry. The Philadelphia office of the Justice Department began its investigation in January, and requested documents from several PE suppliers.
While the department did not confirm the nature of its investigation, several industry executives said they believe it was initiated because film extruders in the New Jersey and Philadelphia areas complained about the numerous price increases they faced in 1994.
Bill Brooks, a department spokesman, confirmed July 18 that the investigation had ended. No charges were brought against any producer.
