SALTILLO, MEXICO - Textron Automotive Co. of Troy, Mich., has opened its first manufacturing facility in Mexico. Textron Automotive de Mexico will make instrument panels and interior trim for the nearby facilities of Chrysler de Mexico and General Motors from its new 538,195-square-foot facility in Saltillo.
The plant will employ about 100.
Textron Automotive Co., a maker of automotive interior and exterior components, is a wholly owned subsidiary of Textron Inc. of Providence, R.I., with annual sales of more than $1.5 billion.

Custom thermoformer Plastofilm Industries Inc. of Wheaton, Ill., won three awards in the Institute of Packaging Professionals' 1994 AmeriStar Packaging Competition for its Accountability Containers, which was designed for Abbott Laboratories Diagnostic Division. The packaging is reusable and recyclable and uses glycol-modified PET for trays with an interchangeable base and lid. The packaging won the Judges' Award of Merit in the pharmaceutical category, the Environmental Award and the People's Choice Award.
Vintec of Murfreesboro, Tenn., a joint venture between Johnson Controls Inc. of Milwaukee and Ikeda Bussan Co. of Ayase City, Japan, was one of six winners of the Shingo Prize for Manufacturing Excellence sponsored by the National Association of Manufacturers and the Utah State University College of Business.
