With plans for a new marketing campaign in the United States and Canada, drainage pipe extruders want to revitalize their trade group, the Corrugated Polyethylene Pipe Association. For more than 20 years, the trade group has worked in relative obscurity, mainly funding research projects and publishing technical papers. In its most recent incarnation, the organization was called Corrugated Plastic Tubing Association, based in Port Charlotte, Fla.
Now the group has been renamed CPPA and has moved to an office in Toledo, Ohio. CPPA has one full-time secretary, according to President David Inglis.
Inglis, owner of PE pipe extruder Bruce Tile Inc. of Walkerton, Ontario, said CPPA wants to become the ``information resource'' for pipe specifiers and installers.
``We decided it was our role to refocus our organization to become that authority,'' Inglis said. ``For the first time, the CPPA is marketing its name, its re-sources and its expertise to an outside audience.''
CPPA officials said the association has 16 member companies: Advanced Drainage Systems Inc. of Columbus, Ohio; Big O Inc. of Exeter, Ontario; Bruce Tile; Crumpler Plastic Pipe of Roseboro, N.C.; Century Plastic of Hayfield, Minn.; Francesville Drain Tile Corp. of Francesville, Ind.; Hancor Inc. of Findlay, Ohio; Hawkeye Tile of Jesup, Iowa; Ideal Drain Tile Ltd. of Arva, Ontario; Plasti Drain Ltd. of Cte. Soulanges, Quebec; Plastic Tubing Inc. of Roseboro, N.C.; Plastic Tubing Industries Inc. of Orlando, Fla.; Princso Inc. of Prinsburg, Minn.; Springfield Plastic Inc. of Auburn, Ill.; B&H Ltd. of Loughborough, England; and Aqua Pipes Ltd. of Warwickshire, England.
Originally used for farm drainage, corrugated PE pipe is growing into new markets such as highway drainage and water.Pressure-rated PE pipe has been represented by the Plastics Pipe Institute, a unit of the Society of the Plastics Industry Inc. But PPI does not cover nonpressure, corrugated pipe.
Inglis said the corrugated PE pipe ``lacked a credible, expert authority that specifiers and installers could turn to and trust for unbiased information.''
In addition to informational advertising, CPPA will offer technical booklets that discuss structural integrity, design methodology and installation.
Ads will feature a new CPPA logo and the group's toll-free number.
The group's new address is: Corrugated Polyethylene Pipe Association, 4235 Monroe St., Suite 124, Toledo, Ohio 43606; tel. (800) 510-2772.
