AKRON, OHIO - Veteran newsman Bill Henson has joined Plastics News as assistant managing editor. Henson, a 49-year-old St. Louis native, has more than 15 years of daily newspaper experience, including five-year stints in the 1980s overseeing the opinion and editorial pages at both the San Francisco Examiner and The (Cleveland) Plain Dealer.
Henson joins Plastics News from the The Columbus Dispatch in Columbus, Ohio, where he has been working as a business reporter. Immediately prior to that, he was executive business editor of the Mobile Press Register daily newspaper in Mobile, Ala. From 1988-1993, Henson served as manager of media relations and strategic issues analysis in Cleveland for the Ameritech telephone company.
Henson, a former U.S. Army sergeant in Vietnam and 1973 journalism graduate from Louisiana Tech University, began his media career as a television news reporter. In 1977, he earned a one-year Nieman Fellowship in journalism at Harvard University.
