DONALDSONVILLE, LA. - Melamine Chemicals Inc. has signed letters of intent with two U.S. companies related to supply contracts at a proposed 66 million pound-per-year melamine plant near Memphis, Tenn. Under one letter of intent, Arcadian Corp. of Memphis would supply the proposed plant with urea, Wayne D. DeLeo, Melamine Chemicals vice president and chief financial officer, said.
The company signed a second letter of intent with a major corporation seeking melamine crystal for various applications, most of which are new uses for melamine, DeLeo said. He would not disclose the name of the corporation or its new applications.
Construction is expected to begin by year's end, after receiving definitive agreements from the two companies. DeLeo estimated that the cost of the plant will be $40 million.
Melamine Chemicals is based in Donaldsonville.
